The tennis pavilion was devised as a space to serve the needs of a private community, creating room for year-round tennis and a multitude of gatherings and events.
The schematic design of the tennis pavilion included site investigation, resident interviews, and the development of two distinct proposals, each intended to capture the programmatic needs of the community. The chosen design features a tennis court, illuminated by day through translucent end walls; multiple changing rooms; a kitchen for casual or catered meals; and a gathering area suitable for various activities, from concerts to book readings, receptions to community celebrations.
The firm partnered with Gary Henderson Interiors to create a rich surface palette to compliment the use of stone and wood as grounding elements of the exterior.
Lighting, both natural and artificial, was carefully specified to include as much daylighting as possible (Kalwall, translucent construction; a fully glazed roof connecting the tennis court with the public space; floor-to-ceiling, retractable doors in the gathering area), with the heat load controlled through the use of specialized glazing materials and roof shelter.

A separation of sport and community space was created by bridging separate structures with natural materials and the full view of a day or night sky. Wood, stone, and glass become the medium through which the wooded surrounding is reflected and engaged.
